I recently got a load of “blogger” books from my lovely boyf (I mean isn’t he the best?) which were mostly about Instagram, because, yanno its a shit storm right now with the unbelievably stupid algorithm, but, I happened to stumble across the #GIRLBOSS! I’m pretty sure you would have seen this book pop up in many blogger pics, maybe on a coffee table or included in a flatlay (this is how I intend to use mine after I’ve read it of course! I mean, the cover of this book is too cute not to be used in pics for the gram!).
Anyways, I was intrigued to see what the fuss was about and I picked myself one up (well, Ryan did) and once I started reading I literally didn’t put it down! I read the whole book in one sitting, I love reading about other people lives and how they kick ass on the daily, and you most certainly will get some kick aresy from this book!
FYI – I certainly do not read books like these pictures suggest, you can bet your sweet ass I was lying on the couch eating Doritos with my hair up and no makeup on. How else does one read a book?
If you have no idea what this book is, let me give you some background info. The #GIRLBOSS who this book is based and written by, is Sophia Amoruso who is the owner and founder of Nasty Gal and is now estimated to be worth $280 million all by the age of 30! I mean, can you get any more incredible than that? She says throughout the book, that she doesn’t want to be seen as a “role-model” but, it’s pretty hard not to admire a woman who built her own business in a male dominated world, and have it succeed to the amount it did.
So, you’re asking, should I read #GIRLBOSS the feminist infested, girl powering, self-help book?
Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you women haters out there but, this book is far from these things! Yes – it does prove that women are just as good as men. Yes – it does have some feminist qualities and Yes it will inspire a lot of young girls to do amazing things. I literally can’t see a problem with any of these tbh, and I would actually read a feminist infested, girl powering, self-help book because I can!
Yes – You Most Certainly Should!
However, the reason why I called this blog post “Why Every Blogger Should Read #GIRLBOSS” is because, it has some unbelievable great tips on how your mentality should be when running a business, and running a blog is basically like running your own business, just you play every role.
If you haven’t read this book, you probably don’t know how Sophia Amoruso got her wealth, and that was through eBay. I was just as shocked, I didn’t even know people ran businesses on eBay, guess I was wrong! Anyways, through her eBay days she would live only for her business, it was her baby and she wanted it to succeed but, not in the typical way. She would listen to her customers’ needs and wants and would try and fulfil them to her best abilities. She didn’t make a business plan, and she didn’t look at the bigger picture from the start, it was just one day at a time.
What I Took From #GIRLBOSS!
The main thing what I got from this book was, never get into something just for the money! This is especially true for blogging, you can’t expect to blog for a couple of weeks and start getting paid collabs straight away, this is very unrealistic. Which is also true for many other things, just like Sophia’s eBay business. She said herself in the book, if she started Nasty Gal for the money, it wouldn’t be successful now. If you are truly interested in something, and put your time and effort in, you will see results and maybe one day we all might be as successfully as Sophia!
However, there is one thing that I wasn’t too sure about regarding the business aspect, and that’s forgetting the basic knowledge of business running. If you don’t know, I am currently doing a marketing degree at uni, and therefore I’m learning business every day and I love it! So, it can be quite hard for me not to take this into consideration when I’m running my blog. That does not mean I am going to be successful because I know business, just take Sophia for example, she just about finished high school and is now a multi-millionaire! This was just something that I picked up on throughout the book.
If you haven’t read #GIRLBOSS I would highly recommend it, blogger or not! I loved reading about her life, and how she grew her business from the bottom up! Hopefully you’ll find it just as entertaining as I did!
Until Next Time x
